Baltimore, MD - Following a long career of leadership and public service to Baltimore City, Walter Horton, the Director of the Department of Real Estate (DoRE) has announced his retirement for the end of March.

Horton, a Baltimore native, began his real estate career over 40 years ago in Baltimore City’s Department of Housing working on various initiatives including the $1 home program in Mayor William Donald Schaefer’s administration. He joined the Comptroller’s Office in 2002 as a Real Estate Officer. In 2006, Comptroller Pratt tapped Horton’s leadership skills to take over the Department of Real Estate, the Department tasked with negotiating real estate dispositions and acquisitions on behalf of the City.

“Walter devoted his entire career to supporting the real estate needs of Baltimore City. We all owe a debt of gratitude to his many accomplishments over the past few decades,” said Comptroller Bill Henry. “I wish him the best in retirement.”

Walter Horton’s last day will be March 31st. Andy Frank, the Deputy Director of the Department, will serve as the Acting Director.
